Ida strengthens into hurricane, could threaten US

    November 6, 2009

Hurricane Ida, the first Atlantic hurricane to target and hit the United States of America this year. It was spotted toward the Gulf Coast with a sustained winds of 75 miles per hour or 120 kilometres per hour. It made landfall in eastern Nicaragua. This hurricane brought heavy rains which also brought the threat of flooding and storm surges in different parts of United States of America. According to National Hurricane Center (NHC), Ida is expected to weaken as it crosses Nicaragua and Honduras before moving to north and re-emerging into the Caribbean by Saturday and the Gulf of Mexico. There is a possibility that the hurricane will regain its strength with a maximum winds ranging from 39 to 73 miles per hour. Although it is anticipated to weaken, the U.S government is keeping a close eye and monitoring carefully on the Category 2 hurricane as it approached. But then, the residents were no plans to evacuate. The US are threatened by this hurricane because they are afraid that the US petrochemical industry, which are located along the Gulf, would be affected. But they stated an immediate plan if this hurricane hit them. Making an alternative plan is always important because it just means that you are prepared and ready for everything.
